Welcome to Burghfield & Mortimer Photo Club
Burghfield & Mortimer Photo Club has been in existence for more than 40 years. It was formed in the early 1980s as an offshoot of the local horticultural society. Photography then was of course exclusively film but by the early 2000s there was heated debate within the photographic world as to whether the emerging digital photography was real photography or not!
Through all the changes of recent years members have continued to meet to share their enjoyment of photography, including all types of digital imaging, alongside the more traditional media.
Our fortnightly Thursday evenings form the core of our programme, with a variety of workshops, showcases and other events.
Our club isn’t primarily about competitions. We organise a wide range of activities to enable members to enjoy photography and to learn and improve their images.
We believe that understanding your camera really helps — whether it’s a smartphone, a mirrorless or a DSLR. Our practical workshops are designed to build these skills step by step.
Regular challenges encourage members to take images of a style or subject that they otherwise might not.
Image critiquing is another key part of what we do. Our evening showcases are not competitions without a judge; they are structured sessions that help members develop the ability to assess images thoughtfully and constructively as part of our cooperative learning process.
Our daytime photo walks offer opportunities to practice new skills and learn from each other. And we might visit a good pub as well!
Our social events are relaxed occasions to get to know each other, and feedback sessions help ensure that members are getting what they want and enjoying their club.
We meet online as well as in‑person.
Our private forum allows members to share large RAW files and editing examples, making it easy for people to ask for and offer practical help and guidance.
Members chat on social media about local opportunities, share photos and learn from each other.
Photography is about seeing potential, capturing memories, and telling stories through compelling images. We want members to enjoy their photography and be proud of the images they create.
We meet in the hall at St Mary’s Church, Burghfield, and we are always happy to welcome new faces.
Prospective new members can attend two evenings free before deciding whether to join.
